The Local Government Inspectorate has charged two candidates in the Melbourne City Council elections, following a thorough investigation of alleged electoral offences.

Richard Foster and Brooke Wandin were charged with the unlawful nomination and false declaration by Ms Wandin during the 2016 elections. The charges were filed via the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office this morning at Melbourne Magistrates Court.

Chief Municipal Inspector David Wolf said electoral rules are fundamental to the integrity of the democratic process and protect the community’s interests in councils elections.

As the matter is now before the courts, the Inspectorate will not be making further comment at this time.
